Any pain behind the neck or upper shoulder area is considered to be neck pain. This type of pain is very common and can be either localized or radiating.
Most Common Causes of neck pain are:
- Muscle strain
- Tension
- Stress
- Poor posture
- Trauma
- Fracture
- Whiplash
- Ruptured disc
- Sprain
Depending on their condition, each patient will exhibit different symptoms and experience different levels of pain. A patient may feel soreness, or mild to moderate pain in neck area. The pain may spread down to upper shoulder to upper back area. A Patient may also experience tightness/stiffness around neck and unable to turn head easily and have a knot like feeling or lack of flexibility in their muscles.
For the majority of people, neck pain can be treated conservatively with physical therapy and a modified active lifestyle. Besides explaining your neck injury and precautions to you, Physical Therapist will also try to relieve your pain using manual therapy and creating an exercise plan for you.
