A letter from our founder
As a young adolescent growing up in New York City, physical activity was a daily part of my life. I was raised in a home where exercise and outdoor activity were encouraged. I would spend a great deal of my free time playing sports, bicycling, swimming, and exploring the outside world. Of course, with this came injuries and inevitably visits to doctors and therapists.
I can remember the healthcare professionals from my youth being attentive, caring, and sincere. They always spent time with me to treat the injury and resolve the mechanism of the injury. Even today, my mother raves about how they would take time to educate her and make her understand the situation even though english was not her first language.
I can remember all of this very clearly, and it ultimately became the reason I wanted to enter the medical field. Anatomy and physiology, as well as other course work, helped to solidify this desire. Towards the end of my education in physical therapy school, I was eager to begin internships where I could apply what I had learned in a clinical setting.
As I completed some of my internships, something became apparent. There was less time given to patients due to quotas that had to be met, and endless paperwork that went along with it. Many therapeutic exercise facilities had become factories with little individual attention.
When I finished my internships and began working in the "real world," this became an even greater reality. Both patients and I had become numbers. I was expected to see a certain number of patients each day, and as a result, every patient had very little one on one time with their therapist. This had become the norm.
I ultimately decided to go into practice for myself. I was confident I could open a physical therapy practice where I could be the type of healthcare professional I admired and respected. I knew it would not be easy, but I fulfilled my ambition. I am currently in a facility where I can give my patients ample one on one time and individual attention just like the great doctors and therapists I had dealt with my entire youth.
I pride myself and my business on this philosophy. Healthcare is rapidly changing. The promise I make to myself and my patients is to maintain the level of excellence I was exposed to as a youth and have been able to maintain to this day regardless of changes in healthcare.
